Abstract

Anaemia in pregnancy remains a major public health concern in India. This facility-based unmatched case–control study was conducted among 1000 pregnant women (250 anaemic, 750 non-anaemic) attending antenatal care at a tertiary hospital in rural Maharashtra from January–December 2024. Data on socio-demographic factors, hygiene and sanitation, diet, and infections were collected using interviews, anthropometry, haemoglobin testing, and stool examination. Multivariate logistic regression identified independent predictors of anaemia: intestinal parasites, farmer occupation, use of unprotected drinking water, tea/coffee intake with or immediately after meals, and low minimum dietary diversity (MDD-W <5).
