Dr. Ruhi Das

Born on January 4, 1968, in Bandura, Nawabganj Upazila, Dhaka, Bangladesh, Ruhi Das has dedicated over 36 years to social development and peace initiatives. He holds a Master of Commerce in Management and a Postgraduate Diploma in NGO Leadership and Management.

As the Founder and Executive Director of BASTOB – Initiative for People’s Self-Development, established in 1997, Ruhi has led the organization in empowering over 100,000 families across 11 districts in Bangladesh. Under his leadership, BASTOB operates through 65 branches with more than 500 staff members. Prior to this, he served as Director of Programs at Bangla-German Sampreeti and held key roles in various development organizations.

Ruhi plays an active role in numerous national and international organizations. He has served as Chairperson of Agragoti Seba Songstha, Vice-Chairperson of Dipshikha and Fakir Memorial Foundation, and General Secretary of ENDEAVOUR. He is also a Board Member of South Asia Partnership Bangladesh and an International Committee Member of the International Fellowship of Reconciliation (IFOR), Netherlands.

His global impact is reflected in his participation in training programs and conferences on development, peace, and financial management across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. In recognition of his contributions, he received the Mujib Year Freedom Award 2022 for outstanding work in social development.

Ruhi is married to Agnesh Peris (Baby) and has two sons. Beyond his professional commitments, he enjoys music and reading. His lifelong mission of community development and peacebuilding continues to shape positive change in Bangladesh and beyond.
