Abstract

This study’s overarching goal is to determine whether or not thin coatings of titanium (Ti) can effectively prevent diffusion in flexible CIGS solar cells built on SS substrates. The effect of titanium film form and crystallographic orientation on its ability to resist the presence of impurities, namely iron (Fe), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni), was investigated by manipulating sputtering pressures during deposition. The results show that reduced sputtering pressures effectively limit impurity diffusion in (001) crystal-oriented Ti films, which improves the efficiency of the solar cell. Finally, the results show that optimizing the deposition conditions for Ti films can significantly increase the performance of flexible CIGS solar cells on SS substrates.
